Originally from Europe, in 2010 the artists relocated to Wellington, New Zealand, receiving residency by virtue of their talent. Anna has a background in translation and public relations. She began working with Heimler conceptually for the Art Express, a travelling exhibition that was shown in Berlin, Budapest and Essen.
Gabriel Heimler was born in Paris, where he studied art before moving to Berlin. His mural on the Berlin Wall, ‘The Wall Jumper’, catapulted his 25-year career as an artist. His paintings revealing the social and historical themes became recognized as really the thought-provoking ones. The East Side Gallery on Myullenshtrasse in Berlin is the world’s longest open-air gallery, which is visited by over a 3 million tourists a year. ‘The Wall Jumper’ by Gabriel Heimler is one of the most visited historical monuments presented in this unique gallery.
Heimler’s art has been sold through Sotheby’s in New York, as well as by the galleries in Berlin, Paris, Frankfurt and Brussels, among the others. Images of his murals in Berlin and Wellington have been featured in the newest editions of the Lonely Planet guidebooks, ‘Discover New Zealand’ and ‘Berlin Pocket’.
